Summer's death

Summer's death

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

No, this is not about fall.

"
Summer's sweet breath
used to comfort me,
kept me warm and
safe from harm;
It still fools me, when it enters,
and offers up the sun --

Somehow, I know
something bad is
yet to come.

So many losses,
so many loves  --
lost memories
stranded on highways,
under tracks; tangled
in the roots of trees --

I am
swallowed by
Summer's death.

Author's Note

Lyn Anderson
Summer is a mixed blessing for me. Too many anniversaries of too many deaths.
The pop song sounds happy, but it's not.

I can understand this. For some summer isn't as happy as it should be. I wish it was for you.

Thanks so much. I know I am not the only one. It is the season of accident and tragedy.

Beautiful imagery. I really like this poem and it flows so well. It is very sad but it is not just sad it so honest that there is almost something nostalgic about...like I have felt this, lived it. It i very relate able. Great write.

Thanks so much for your kind words.
This 'M' has a taste of darkness and regret in its melancholly voice. A gulf away from your usual offerings! But it is tight and crisp and flows well to paint that picture.

F**k aniversaries I say! Banish them to the basement of hell and take back the summer!

Yeah, I know. I try to forget. I really do.
