we can't all be Einstein Casanovas

we can't all be Einstein Casanovas

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

it is what it is, as the recently anointed phrase goes.

"
some people
can't see past
their own noses
or navels,
as the case
may be ...

they see you
or him or
him or me,
but they
really don't see
do they?

judgements
rudimentary
in nature are
seared in
superficial
flesh lines,
never peeling back
the underneath.

sometimes the
goof is really
a genius,
and the genius
is a thin
veneer of
vanity wrapped
in a cloak
of charm.

we can't all be
Einstein Casanovas,
but sometimes,
we can be
backward
and brilliant
at the same
time.

Thanks so much, and yes, you are right, and sometimes people are just their quirky bit of both.

Only time gets to judge true brilliance and should one be deemed a true genius, chances are she won't be there to revel in the glory. I say clear yourself of ego as much as you can and write what is true and then it will be valuable, in the very least to the writer. The flip side … it doesn't take a genius to be a critic but often a whole lot of ego … listen to the criticism but take stock of the critic too before you go a'changing. There are already a whole bunch that love you just the way you are. (That's you, you and the universal you:)

And Einstein Casanova sounds like a fabulous pen name.

Good on you … :)
Excellent observations on the human condition. My paternal grandmother (of the Handed Down poem) came to Canada from Ukraine. She lived on a farm, outside a small town, learned basic English, and spoke with a heavy accent. When interest rates sky rocketed in the early 80s, she astounded me by figuring out in her head to with a few dollars what I was going to be paying on a house we had to buy for a transfer.
She was backward and brilliant. she could run circles around any environmentalist of today, everything was reused, recyled, and utilized over and over.

A guy.. No, let's say a woman. a woman went walking thru the park one day.
noticing all the magpied muscovies making a splash she proceeded to crouch then waddle along through the grounds like they did.
Wanting to make an exacting impression, she then tucked her hands into the pits of her arms and started to quack.
there were some other people out walking that day and they watched the antics of the woman.
it was funny and they laughed.
as they laughed, the woman became self conscious and with a splat of indignant pride on her beak, she wondered where did those people ever get the nerve to call her a duck.?
she was really a silly goose.

i like backward and brilliant....

i also appreciate those who are humble about their successes...

they let others notice on their own...and others talk about those successes.

but such an oxymoron..."einstein casanovas"---

often not seen together, brainy people are not thought of as insanely romantic.

but people judge...and that is flaky...because they often do without really knowing the person at all.

Several of the lines in here gave me the image of some morbidly obese person who hasn't seen their genitals in years... (past the navel, flesh lines) Which made for a rather amusing comparison to one's writing. Like seriously, I am still pondering the connection between contrived writing (or is it the brilliant stuff in disguise?) and morbid obesity? I would also like to point out the sheer absurdity of combining Einstein and Casanova, since they are such different approaches to 'genius'. Thanks for the great poem; there are far too many writers who have their heads up their a*s! You either write for yourself, or you write for others; if you don't decide on which, then you will never succeed at either.
