the infidelity or the egg?

the infidelity or the egg?

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

I do know what inspired it, but this one is weird even for me

"
boiled in lava,
or death by ashen
pyroclastic cloud.
does it really matter?

death
is
death.

lies
are
lies.

which came first
the infidelity
or the egg?
and does it matter?
in the end,
the chicken
is dinner.

The first line has a violent fury to it; much like seeing Vesuvius engulf Pompeii, regardless of which fiery demise you were handed, they were all quite unpleasant. I think the only way it mattered was 'how much of you' was left to be ogled at by archaeologists. The simplicity of the middle two lines is superb, especially when contained between two 'does it matter's. Finally, the final line was great! Indeed, the chicken is for dinner! Although I fancy mine roasted and rotisserie; I will pass on the molten lava and pyroclastic flows.

Thanks, sometimes a stray thought just before bed is the one ...
Ok, seeing a few interpretations here...
Perhaps your hidden message is this:

Don't be a chicken, be brave, because lions eat chickens.
Do you want to be the lioness or the hen?

Would you rather tear him to bits, or throw an egg at him?

Thanks, this was a weird thing that kept rolling around in my head.
Make sure you pluck it first. I really loved the play on words here KLGoode. In the end it always gets you fried, one way or the other.

Ha ha, I wonder why?
Now that is delightfully clever little poem… once that trust is broken there is no need for walking on eggshells that was the relationship.

You are most welcome.
the chicken is dinner, but the party guilty of infidelity is toast for breakfast...and is eaten along with the egg.
