I can't help myself

I can't help myself

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

sometimes I just do

"
I admit it,
sometimes I do it --
I might watch a movie
by Woody
or Mel,
or enjoy a flick
featuring Angelina Jolie.

I shouldn't,
but I do,
even though
their personalities
and politics I abhor,
and their egos
are a chore
to ignore.

I admit it,
sometimes
I give you
a real
review.

Lyn Anderson
I personally work at my reviews, which is why some people don't like it when I offer corrections or suggestions, and why I appreciate those who do too, but some do not, and this is my take on that ...

I feel the same. I think most of us are here to BOTH grow and to help other poets grow.

I do too, and I refuse to let one ROTTEN apple spoil the bunch.

Good for you.
I for once not knowing writing at all I am from the belief of any help is good help. I have received great help and encouragement and I don't mean just the comment here and there some actually told me things that have resulted in improvement. Having worked and moderated KL on some sites I can tell you I see nothing wrong whatsoever. What I have encountered and to me has been a revelation is how serious are some here. They take their writing very seriously and although I do applaud that it would be foolish to believe that every one should or would bear that in mind.

Oh you should see what happens when you comment on ONE chess move on a chess site. I prefer dreamers and striving for creativity any day over aspergers and obsessiveness induced.

May your reviews be helpful.

Thankyou

Yes, I have a little sarcastic streak.
My reviews are typically the first thing that pops into my head. For better or worse.

Yes and I never doubt their veracity
I appreciate every review you give and any advice you offer. You are always kind and never insulting. If some people can't take criticism well they are in for a rude awakening because life is trial and error and if you can't take advice well you will have it hard.

You are welcome Kit Kat :)
I have seen your reviews, and believe you do put a lot of thought and consideration into your comments. I try do as well, some people seem to be appreciative, some write the obligatory thank you, but that is all, others just ignore and go along their merry way. I don't see that changing.
Having said all that, I like the analogy here, there are actors that drive you nuts with their personal life and BS, but you still admire their talent, and recognize it.
One little point "or enjoy flick " might benefit from adding "a"

Wow thanks for noticing that. I thought the A was in there.
Honesty and thought are worthy traits...I for one, appreciate your reviews...time is running away from me of late, but I do read and enjoy your work...seems I read through a bulk load of your poetry rather than one at a time...enjoyable to do so - maximum KL effect lol ;) x

I just pretend they are not real people. Kind of like someone who just does it for his ego and
self righteousness.

You are most welcome KL, now that I know some of the background for these it all makes sense.
The core and truth is to be oneself, so I wonder what is the real issue being ourselves, the writer, reader, reviewer all can be themselves, the perception and it's accommodating range varies, still I believe it is worth be be ourselves than some one

You're speaking my language here unequivocally...this is exactly how I feel towards a lot of people in these parts, not my friends of course (don't worry, you are one, but I'm sure you know that haha), but I don't have very many of those...I can count them on one hand...so in response to a confessional poem, I offer a confessional review of sorts...this place depresses me a hell of a lot more than it enlightens me...there are a number of reasons for it, but I'll just say that it's that handful of friends that keeps me here, and persuade me to stay when I get flustered enough to leave...I'm here for them more than I am for the actual writing aspect...if you see enough of my reviews, you may catch on to the fact that they deal in emotions rather than technicalities...even though I have editing experience, and am actually a poetry editor on a magazine now, I'm just not the critique-ing type in live forums (and I'm using words here that an editor would abhor haha)...so this piece truly speaks to me, and is a hands-down favourite...nicely done K.
