wishing

wishing

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

just a fleeting thought

"
Every time I catch
myself wishing,
I think of grandma,
a smile on her face --
she said with such grace,
"wish in one hand s**t in the other, see which one gets filled the fastest."
and I remember the coin
is better off in in my pocket
than in Timmy's
at the bottom of the well.

Author's Note

Lyn Anderson
Timmy refers to an episode of Lassie -- he fell down the well. And I haven't a clue who is the original author of the "wish in one hand" saying.

Ah yes I love that famous saying, even used it a time or two… the ending has me intrigued and contemplating the meaning.

I wouldn't have it any other way.
This is a great truism here. Also:

Only an empty cup may be filled.
It's necessary to travel light if one’s to climb a mountain.
We must die to be resurrected.
We must give if we’re to receive.
The deeper we fall, the higher we rise.
Nothing avoids a void.
Within darkness we all the better see the light.

Thanks. It is one truism Gramma was very fond of saying, that always makes me smile.
