Another one on the way (5) (Censored version)

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

When she tells Tom she is pregnant, Kara feels the ground she gained she's lost.

"
Kara looks at the stick with trepidation. They have been so careful. How could she be? Well, there was that one time ... Holy s**t. Just when things started to normalize. They got through Jen's death and aunt Sal's. They managed to move through and beyond Tom's financial infidelity. He seemed to really care for Dana, their daughter. They were trying to clear the bills. Kara's mom and dad helped them with a loan. Now, another child? Really? She is excited, but terrified. And the look on Tom's face when she tells him says it all. She is going this alone. Tom all but checked out the moment the words left her mouth.
Kara's pregnancy is a hard one. She is sick all the time, like being sea sick on land. The money issues are worse. Tom is leaving all the time to hang out with friends. She is tired. Putting Dana in day care is a mixed blessing. It keeps her from worrying, but it also leaves Tom alone at home to do nothing. She comes home from work and feels sad and alone; wanting to have it like it was in the beginning. A clean home and dinner on the table. When Tom's friends used to tease him that he was "whipped",  those were better days.
Her friends and family are starting to notice. Her eczema is back, as is her nail biting. She fights more and more frequently with Tom. Fight, forget; fool around -- that is their pattern. They already do not sleep in the same room. That started when she was pregnant with Dana.
Kara misses the intimacy, the cuddling. The night they stopped sleeping together still makes her so angry she can hardly contain herself. The memory is like a knife in her heart.
"Kara, Kara, wake up." Bleary eyed, pregnant, she looks at Tom. He is standing over her, furious at something.
"Your stupid snoring is so loud, I can't sleep," Tom says, in a tone that sounds like murder.
Kara looks at him, and looks at the clock. She is barely able to comprehend what he is saying. "And just what would you like me to do about it," she retorts. "I have to work in the morning. I am pregnant, I am tired, I need my sleep. You snore too. I never b***h at you."
"But your snoring is way worse. I can't sleep. Why can't you just go somewhere?"
"What, out of MY bed when I am pregnant and I am the one who works? Really, Tom, is that reasonable?"
"Oh sure, you stupid broad, play the pregnant card", Tom yells. "No one could sleep with that awful noise you make."
Kara looks at him. He has this way of hammering her into submission until she is too angry and too exhausted to fight. Without a word she gets up, and sits in the chair watching TV until she falls asleep an hour later, at 3 am. The baby will wake her at 5 am to breast feed, and then it is breakfast and off to work.
Kara is thinking of this as she gets ready for work. She is starting to feel less and less like herself. She used to like dressing up and wearing make-up. Often times, her heart is not into looking good. It is all she can do to put her shoes on and work. She is feeling resentful, picking Dana up from day care while Tom sits on his a*s, visits his friends, does whatever it is he does while she works.  She is trying not to get down. She loves Dana, she loves the baby in her belly, she does not need to add more worry to her full plate. Kara is really starting to feel that being with Tom is a bad idea, but when she thinks of going it alone, she is paralyzed with fear. Maybe things will turn around once the baby is born. Tom sure did an about face when Dana was born, maybe it will be the same the second time around ...
