counting road kills on the trip to freedom

counting road kills on the trip to freedom

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

yeah just what I said.

"
counting road kills
on the trip
to freedom,
imagining the trail
of broken hearts
and near misses
along the way.

the sum of all the
parts strewn on the
highway of her mind
on the way to add
another brick
to the wall;
a finality to it all.

you wouldn't like him,
and that is kind of the point.
he would growl; hackles up,
protecting his new home
from the enemy
he would
sense you to be.

the papers she signed
with a smile on her face
said "When you adopt a
dog, you are saving two
lives -- the one of the dog
you adopt and the one
who takes its place."

but in reality,
at least in her case,
it's three.

Yes, I think I do understand this K.
You fed and cared for the "dog" who is gone. Your life feeling like a series of "road kill" disasters one after the other. Reality is unwilling to stay within the invisible fence of your relationships.
So, you find a friend who will be true and in the process this dog saves you too...
Maybe? Still, I like the poetry K.

Wow, thanks. And yes, this is pretty much what I was trying to convey.
I like the fact I re-read your poetry and the flow sails through me - saving the mind is no easy task, when it has maps of its own and when saving others...perhaps, way off - but that's the beauty of your work, it opens doors x

Rescuing an animal is most definitely about saving me.
I know it has already been said, but I really do like this piece. It makes perfect sense to everyone and anyone who has had a loyal animal in their lives. They are capable of loving unconditionally, and keeping you from slipping into darkness whilst alone.

I hope that you will be able to offer each other that safe bond and happiness for many years to come.

Thanks so much.
Great writing, KLG. I highly approve of animal adoption. It is a great way to move on with your life and clearly state your preferences (beast before man). Little dogs are super loyal and don't cheat on their owners or betray trusts....They are great protectors of home and hearth. Nice write, my friend...:)
