Avoidance therapy

Avoidance therapy

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

OH my when I don't want to do something ...

"
If only I could get paid
for thinking up ways
to rationalize
my tardy days
I would be rich indeed.

paint my toes,
cut my hair,
feed the cat,
vacuum the stairs,
clean the toilet,
write a verse,
carefully
remove all the lint
from the bottom
of my purse ...

a computer glitch
created an extension,
too irresistible to mention,
an impossible temptation
for my incorrigible procrastination  ...

an extra few days
to file my tax?
kids are at grandma's,
why not just relax?
and in ten days
just like always,
I will be dialing
at one to midnight
server busy --
and just past two,
I will get through,
just like I always do.

Nice. Yea...if only we could get paid for the creative ways we come up with the to do things other than what we should be doing. We'd all be filthy rich.

One thing I like about reading your work, KL, is that you can take some of the most mundane things and put a twist on them, whether it be a funny twist, or a naughty kitty cat twist, you always manage something interesting.

Well done.

Thanks. And I am still procrastinating.
I LOVE this incredibly relatable piece--clearly the creative mind thrives on deadlines and a bit of pressure! Very nicely done :-)

Haha Sounds like the predicament many of us are going through these days....I really like the day-in-the-life feel of this piece...I've never been convinced that a reader truly knows a writer (you relate to them but you never really know them) but I do come away from this piece feeling like I've known a lot about the writer...well done :)

Hahaha! Love your clever writes, KL. This is fantastic. I enjoyed this because, yet again, you and I are too similar. Procrastination is probably one of the few things I can do right! xo (:
