It's a funny nightmare for a grown woman. She used to like Grover, running from one end of the living room to the back end of the kitchen, "Here!" she would exclaim, and touch the cupboard and run back. Whatever it was that cookie monster did to end up in her nightmares, she cannot remember. Only one day, he travelled there, and took up residence, deep in her psyche. He is entrenched. Enter the Incredible Shrinking Man -- an old black and white movie she used to watch on WDIV Duluth TV. It scared the hell out of her, especially the part where he had to fight the spider. Mix the two together in the mind of a 5 year old and you have a recipe for a recurring nightmare that has spanned nearly forty years:
"Yum yum, me gonna get some, A bite of that little one -- use my shrink ray gun".
Zip zap it's all done, now I am tiny, can't you see? "Somebody help me! way down here, right by the plug, yes that's me, I'm Grover; no bigger than a bug!"
Big blue hands reach from above me -- "No please!" And just like that, it's all over no more Grover, that Cookie Monster, he's insane, He just flushed me down the drain.

That's write gotta get it out as it overflows from our twisted brains
This is a very creative plot for a science fiction movie. What if outer space aliens hit us with a shrink ray from orbit shrinking all of us to the size of bugs? Then the invasion of the giant aliens would begin as they vacuum up millions of us into cages to be sent to their home planet for medical experiments. We'd be fighting aliens, birds, frogs, rodents, and spiders in our quest for survival.
Wow, talk about covering all the bases...this is very much a showcase for you platter of talents as a writer. It's funny how nightmares work that way...this story put me in mind of the current Easter events...my God those life-size bunnies can be frightening...I don't know how I've never gotten nightmares from them before...not that I haven't had recurring nightmares in my life, usually involving fictional characters. This is a different side to your writing for sure, but just remember that we're writers...we're all whacked on some level ;)
Nicely written scary reoccurring dream! I am not a physiologist so I can't help you there. The heart and mind is certainly a deep well of many hurts and fears that writers bleed out through there pen. Lovely write!

I am sure the subliminal meaning behind it would be analyzed as fear of being minimized. And that I was for many years, so who knows, that is maybe why the dream has stuck with me all these years.:)
Bahahaha! I really shouldn't laugh at your recurring nightmare but it's amazing what the mind can conjure up sometimes! This is a fun read, yet clearly frightening at the same time. Definitely felt like I was in the mind of a 5 year old. Great write, my dear! xo (:

I have two that have stuck with me from childhood, and this is one. The other one involves my own severed head. I dealt with that one in my strangest things poem. :)
