pilfered

pilfered

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

this is what I thought of ...

"
to say he pilfered
the best parts
of her heart
would be disingenuous --
it was more like
an armed robbery --
a full on frontal assault,
and with him
left her trust.

in his absence
she found it necessary
to reinforce the
vault and change
the security key
to hide her love
and protect her dignity

inside the confines
of her own
self-conceived walls
she waits.
for the right someone
to discover the combination.
