sewn shut

sewn shut

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

sometimes you read something that triggers a memory, sometimes sad ones

"
She was over-bubbly
that day,
something was off -
her eyes were too bright;
something I chose
to ignore.
we took photos
and smiled.

In love with a man
who used his fists
to express affection;
bore his child they
both soon abandoned;
lost in pain and
self medication ...

a year later,
her eyes were
sewn shut.

at the impossible age
of twenty three
her light was gone,
and we said goodbye
to an empty shell
in a church
we all knew
too well.

This hits me hard... domestic violence is part of the book I'm writing. Ive known more then a few women who are survivors and even did background research with some from our local shelter. My sister was abused by her ex husband. Its an atrocity what some men do to women. This poem is heart breaking.

Thanks Kl Goode! I sometimes don't know how to react to domestic Violence as I feel that so much could and should be done about it. It sounds like a very sad story. Good right!
