A Special Place

A Special Place

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

this is a rewrite -- I was inspired to go back and take a look -- thanks Delmar -- and David Draiman, "Down with the Sickness"

"
There is a special place in
hell for some.

those who
would call
themselves
mother!

shameful
usurpers of
that revered
title.

Rosie didn't earn
it

when she held
her first
born son down
so dad could
beat him
with a 2 by 4

neither did
Maggie,
when she
whispered
"hussy" to
the daughter
she let her
husband visit
in the middle
of the night.

nor Dellie,
when she let
his stepdad
make her son
scrub his vomit
off the floor.

nor Andie,
who drowned
her offspring
one by one
by five.

and I have to believe

There's a special
place in hell
for women like
that.

Author's Note

Lyn Anderson
The characters are based on stories I have heard. Andie refers to Andrea Yates, who was on death row in Texas for drowning all her children one by one like kittens in a tub. Her sentence was commuted to life. "Not guilty by reason of insanity"

The thing that drives me crazy is that I have friends who've been trying their whole lives to have children to no avail...then you get these dumb high school kids screwing around and popping out kids that usually wind up never knowing who their fathers are, or their mothers for that matter. You wouldn't believe this, but about ten years ago, my very small Nova Scotia hometown had the highest single mother rate per capita in the entire country...and I had nothing to do with it...by default...I don't care for my hometown a great deal haha What can I say, I'm really digging your vitriol today my friend, and am in total agreement with your sentiments...great work as always.

I understand this...
Our family is caring for a young man who has been abused by his mother...
It is so sick because he wants to love her but he cannot. He feel bad because he is angry at the woman he is "supposed" to love...
It is tricky when these key influences are poisoned.
I do not wish hell on anyone, but I do feel a sadness it will be a place many need to go...

Yes, this revision is crystal clear and compelling. The prior version did not have this clarity.

I thought so. It took a long step back, and a Delmar and a Draiman to revise it:)
Powerful. The horrors that some people can do is just.. there are no words. There must be a special place in hell for them. Great write. Sad, tragic, and vengeful. xo :)
