Pan's instrument

Pan's instrument

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

I was always scared of Pan.

"
Pan isn't a man
nor woman
she devil
might be
half beauty
innocent deer
the other half
human's unlikely kin

People think it is
a flute she plays
but it is really
a violin
made from the delicate gut
she ripped from
under kitty's
skin.

Wow, a bit creepy - and I suppose that's the point, if you were always scared of Pan! Have you ever seen the film "Pan's Labyrinth"? (I suppose it's a mistranslation of "El laberinto del fauno") but it takes place in the fascist Spain in 1944, and the "faun" character is extremely creepy.

Oh yes - about the poem...you rather shocked me at the end..."a violin/made from the delicate gut..." Whether symbolic or not, being a cat lover, it was frightening. And an interesting link with the film above...one of the messages is "Never trust a faun." Hmm...that said, wonderfully written work!

Too kind.:)
Cat gut you say...I've heard of it but didn't realize it was so versatile. This is a graphically memorable poem.

Yes cat gut was once used for instruments and is still in some suture material.

RAWR ;-)
I really like your writing style KLG ... You have a mixture of mystery and fantasy and good sense of humor thing in some of your piece. And of course the romantic side of you. Make me wonder if you are a she or a he ? I think your a she ...
