A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

sometimes a girl just wishes she could be what her parents wanted her to be

"
How can I tell them
that
Little Miss Muffet
Doesn't always just
sit on her tuffet?
And that the spider
when it sits down beside her
Doesn't necessarily
frighten her away?
----
that
Mary, Mary, quite contrary
was quite happy
to let weeds in her garden grow?
----
that
Girls aren't always made
of sugar and spice
and everything nice?
----
that
Little Bo Peep
never looked for her sheep?
----
that
Mary
never had a little lamb?
----
that
Snow White
was not so pure
as everyone was sure?
----
that
she was just a girl
for whom her parents
wished the world?

well, even three years later, your poem is fresh and imaginative and very much appreciated... sorry it took me so long to read it... and thanks for organizing your poems...

it is also interesting to see the poets that left comments and what they said as well... a kinda trip down memory lane... key up the music... ;0)

Ummm Hmmmm I feel so neglected!!!
Seen but not heard, as little ladies should be, eh? Your use of nursery rhymes which inadvertently enforce misogyny is a clever way of contrasting the fantasy of what women are from the full realities.
As you ask for reviews which go beyond mere accolades, and are such a sincere and fair person yourself, which is to be appreciated, in my humble opinion the last verse sounds out of place with all the preceding ideas as though another verse is missing there - I assume it is just how I am reading the poem and misunderstanding the final verse's meaning.
Anyway, my ignorance apart, it's a great poem, funny and shrewd. Thanks.
