Yeah

Yeah

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

Sorry hunters - I am not a big fan of killing things as beautiful as wolves

"
Night
Fell upon the forest
And evil lurked in the darkness there

A human cry
Shattered the silence
the hunt was on

Frothing steel grey muzzle
She ran for their lives
the prey was in sight

Thunder shot
And their laughter could be heard
She lay half-dead, a bullet in her side
Waiting for the club.
The wait was not long
but the hoops and hollers were.

And in the den
the three lay
the cubs for whom she gave her life.

And quivering
her mate
lifted his nose
to the sky
to say his last goodbye.

Two men beside a grey and lifeless body
Heard the lonely call
One of them said, as he spit into the fire
"Probably out hunting deer, them filthy things, cruel, the way they kill".
"Yeah".

Boy...sad...disturbing. I teach people how to use weapons for self defense..not for hunting.
To kill anything for no reason is a crime against the universe itself..
I like animals better than people..I know that's odd...having dogs as friends has taught me the precious truth...we all have a right to exist. as far as the hunters go....guns were made for shooting people..not animals...I know that's crude and alarming...but that's how I feel.
Thanks for this writting.

The irony and mockery in this is just marvellous. You describe the effect of the human action on a family and then brand the perptrators for what they are with their own words - brilliant.

Reality is the perception of what is living within it. Even our personification has a base within the realm of instinctual behaviors that even SOME people occasionally display. Sigh.

Ever notice how it takes something to be "gone" before it is made majestic and wonder-full, spoken of with a taste of awe and seeming majesty. Dioramas and other public displays (with a price of admission - of course). I wonder what they'll do for the Snail-darter... just a thought.

The world is an emptier place as each piece of "beauty" and the sense of diversity is removed... "Yeah"

A very descriptive and sympathetic poem in its tone. Nicely penned and with a good moral purpose. Great impact in the final lines. One error 'spat into the fire'. I have been walking with wolves and they are simply majestic and awesome creatures.
