The Wolf

At the far edge of the world
there is a moonlit path
and there a dark figure
with golden eyes
with furry muzzle to the sky
Surrenders to the darkness a lonely
song
Forever true to the wilderness

A furry muzzle. Muzzles usually keep an animal quiet or from biting yet this one sings a song to the wilderness. I may have to think about this one a bit.

muzzle, as in a part of the wolf's anatomy: the projecting part of the face, including the nose and mouth, of an animal such as a dog or horse.

Sorry, I am usually a quite literal writer, and when meanings are intended to be double, I definitely make them so. This poem is from the archives when I used to separate all my poems of the same idea. I now often group them together. It is a companion piece to the poems Listening, and Yeah. I hope my reply did not come off snippy. It was actually just a clarification.

Could be the song for a mate. Could be a song to the full moon or its relatives. Guess we'll never know but I like the way you worded the poem. The wilderness is a different world all together.

[Coyote Poetry]

The wolf is very cool. Can survive with man near and far. I saw the large wolves in upper Michigan. A 200 pound wolf had no fear. I enjoyed the description. Can't tame a wolf. Always a dangerous house pet. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
