Spun Sugar on Melty Ice Cream

Spun Sugar on Melty Ice Cream

A Poem by Amelia Wothe

I feel
Like spun sugar on melty ice cream
Things are sweet and sparkling
Dancing lightly over dish and tongue
Crystalline ballerinas of fractallic glucose
Fragile
But spun sugar doesn't last
Especially on melty ice cream
The sweet cream floods the fractals
Breaking down walls in a delicious catastrophe
Waves of artificial sweeteners
Crashing against the most ethereal of candy
The spun sugar never had a chance
Against the melty ice cream
And yet the disaster is slow, gradual
A diner may not even realize their dessert is disappearing
Until it's gone
Vanished into a puddle of flavored dairy
And little clumps that used to be
Spun sugar

Wow, got me craving. I think I'll go get a spun sugar on melty ice cream later. Great read!
