My Lilac Colored Pencil

My Lilac Colored Pencil

A Poem by Amelia Wothe

I've lost my lilac colored pencil

Only my violet one is here

Where did it go?

Has it rolled under the desk?

Or gotten lost in the blankets?

I can imitate the color

But it's not the same

A whole shade is gone

From my little canvas world

A layer of vitality vanished

From bright skies and clear waters

And smiles and eyes

And just the littlest things

Perhaps my lilac pencil was snapped

Broken like a weather balloon tether

And now off floating

Exploring new horizons

A better place for it, I'm sure

But not with me any longer

It reminds me of moving away

But staying in contact

Because there is a connection

But it's lost something

Our friendship is violet now

Just violet

We can imitate the hues we used to have

But our true lilac doesn't exist

It's gone

Like my colored pencil
