What's Hard About LoveA Poem by Amelia WotheRealizing you're in love is hard. Whether it's finding your heart has been ripped out of you, Without regard to your thoughts and feelings on the matter, And now sits, whole and beating, in another's hands. Or waking up to find that what you've slowly given away Wasn't just time and energy, but a special piece of your soul, And the hollow space left in you is suddenly home to someone dear. Staying in love is even harder. Doesn't matter if it's deciding day in and day out To stand by doing nothing as you watch Your blood pour through the cupped fingers around your heart. Or choosing as you wake up each and every morning To remain incomplete and hollow on your own So your lover can have somewhere warm to come back to. But losing love is the worst by far. Watching as what keeps you alive slips and crashes to the floor No longer supported, cared for, or held close. Feeling as your missing piece is stuck back in But doesn't fit quite right anymore because the space isn't the same. Knowing that you'll scar and heal and fall back in love again. © 2016 Amelia WotheFeatured Review
