Learning to LiveA Poem by Avocations of Amber
To live, to grow, to dream, to be; Life unfolds like a canopy From birth to death in faith and through fire gathering knowledge for lifting the spire Questions asked -- I learned through trials Memories stretch on for miles Portions of the bad and good, meshing together as God thinks they should Creating a woman from the girl that had been A child, a teen, And an object of sin Became teacher and wife and a mother of men With a daughter in tow, Who will do it again Her energized eyes now no longer bound, those old scales, like fool's gold all over the ground, I see myself both then and now. A mirror image I see not, One mind, but with two journeys sought The first I owe to my childish heart The next to a mind being torn apart by logic which experience brings But now, seeks out the quieter things Aging as a sweet, red wine Stretching like a kudzu vine Freedom rings just like a bell In this game of life I know so well.
