9,000 Wasn't Good Enough

9,000 Wasn't Good Enough

A Poem by Amber
"

Because balance is balance is balance is off. Because you leave me bent over. Because you leave me weak.

"

A boat made of words?
I thought, "It couldn't be so!"
But you whispered, "No more,"
As you floated away,
lost in the things you wouldn't say.

"I know your secrets,"
you said to my eyes,
"I know the truth,
but worse,
the lies.
I know the times when you ran away,
I know the hours you shouldn'tve stayed.

You think if you run, you won't want so much.
You think if you're tired, you won't mind the hush.

You think if you're closer, you can get farther away,
You think if you told me, you'd have nothing to say.

But I know your fingers, and the hands that you hold.
I know your mouth, and the memories you've told.

I know your knees, and the way that you bend,
I know your feet, oh, the places you've been.

I know your secrets,"
You said to my lungs.
"I know the old,
but worse,
the young.
I know the times when you've started over,
I know your music, but I know it slower."

And I yelled, "Shut up!" as your boat took shape,
I said, "You don't know me!" but we knew it was fake,
so I screamed "I don't love you!" - my soul, free to take,
you whispered, "You do," as yours took its place.

A boat made of words?
I could only say no,
but you opened your heart,
as you floated away,
I saw your light, your shades of gray.
