PermanenceA Poem by Amber S. HaysThings don’t change; people are just better at dealing with the situations presented. My footsteps are barely noticeable along the creaky floorboards, and your questions are posed with caution. I keep pretending that hearing the clattering laughter of other’s teeth doesn't set a hateful fire in my heart. But it does. The burning continued throughout this Winter, and when I welcomed Spring, all my flowers shriveled and died. They told me I had made a mistake in loving the things I do. And I agreed with that and admitted it was true. That everything and everyone was something I could love but could never find, and my darkest days were something bright on a rainy day. © 2013 Amber S. Hays |
