Reflections of the Mirror

Even the mirrors deceive .

I looked in the mirror

Hoping it would replicate

My real self

But all it revealed

Was The confident girl

Hidden behind fears and insecurities

It refused to show the misery

Hidden behind the forged grin

It showed the luminous eyes

Not the dreams that lied unfulfilled

It showed the long legs

But not their weariness

It showed the hands that rendered help

But not its eagerness to be lovingly held

Whoever said mirrors don't deceive ?

They to in the bogus reflections believed

I liked three things about this poem. Brevity, straightforwardness and the mirror image, which differentiates between one's view of oneself and the view of society. What I didn't like, however, was the literality and the lack of metaphors. I like it when a poem paints pictures in my mind. But that is just a matter of personal taste, I suppose. It is also possible that there was some deeper meaning I missed. Overall, I quite liked it. :)
