The Soldier's Wife

The Soldier's Wife

A Poem by Ambereen
"

A poem showing the trauma a soldiers wife faces while he is on the war front

"

Dressed in the wedding gown she bid him good bye

Valiantly she held back the tears in her eyes

Just pronounced man and wife

Now on the battle field he fought for life

Each day in the church a candle she lit

Praying he was safe and fit

Bullets and guns while he braved

To return to his spouse ,his heart craved

Days went by and then months

He battled the opponents on the war front

For his country he fought

Until in a coffin he was brought

Her dreams of happily wedded life now lay on the funeral pyre

Indeed with her husband she too was a martyr

Just thought of this as a way to thank all the men in the uniform and their families for their sacrifice.

it is heavenly when men sacrifice themselves for their country and their families sacrifice their beloveds for the happiness of other families...a great tribute:)

Wow this is stunning, you captutured the feeling so well. Tears almost came down my cheeks while reading this. Because my loved one fought for our country, and i wanted him home so badly. And i feared this was going to happen, he's home now! I can really relate to this well. Great job

For a second there I thought this was my poem but mine is "A soldier's leader"
This makes me think of the song "just a dream" By Carrie Underwood.

I still loved this

hey was just kidding Wickedly kind ... Yes all good ... Peace prevails
Oh my gosh, Ambereen! Your work keeps impressing me more each time I read. This poem brought tears to my eyes. Soldiers are sometimes overlooked and not thanked enough, well that's my opinion. They're out there fighting for our freedom and independence, while their families stay at home wondering if they're alright in that cold battlefield. I am glad that you wrote this poem to thank them and their families for their sacrifices. That's very kind of you to do so. Back to your poem, your words are so vivid that I can imagine the scenes that are taking place. Whenever a woman marries a man that's helping others, for example:firefighter, police officer, or solider they know that one day their day of helping will end. We all die, so might as well die for doing something for others. Right?

"For his country he fought
Until in a coffin he was brought
Her dreams of happily wedded life now lay on the funeral pyre
Indeed with her husband she too was a martyr."--The best and saddest part of the whole entire poem. This is the part that literally brought tears to my eyes. I didn't think he was going to die out there. I was hoping for a happy ending. For example: he makes it out there okay, comes home to his wife, and they have kids. But you twisted that with an original thought. Pure excellence! :)
