The Unexpected MonsterA Poem by AmayaA little girl roams through her house at night with all the
lights on. She’s afraid of the dark, She’s afraid of what she can’t see, She’s afraid of what she might see. As she goes upstairs she slowly turns off all the lights. She sprints upstairs in the dark, Afraid of the monster that might be lurking in the shadows. But now it has a face, The monster was always an illusion, a figment of the girl’s imagination, But now when she runs up the stairs, She sees his face in the shadows, She imagines him chasing her, She imagines him smiling and grinning as if everything is
okay. The monster never had a face, But now it was his, He was the monster in her head And what always seemed like a childish fear of the dark, Suddenly became something much more serious. © 2018 AmayaReviews
