The Unexpected Monster

The Unexpected Monster

A Poem by Amaya

A little girl roams through her house at night with all the lights on.

She’s afraid of the dark,

She’s afraid of what she can’t see,

She’s afraid of what she might see.

As she goes upstairs she slowly turns off all the lights.

She sprints upstairs in the dark,

Afraid of the monster that might be lurking in the shadows.

But now it has a face,

The monster was always an illusion, a figment of the girl’s imagination,

But now when she runs up the stairs,

She sees his face in the shadows,

She imagines him chasing her,

She imagines him smiling and grinning as if everything is okay.

The monster never had a face,

But now it was his,

He was the monster in her head

And what always seemed like a childish fear of the dark,

Suddenly became something much more serious.

Sometimes monsters are more than just figments of our imagination. Sometimes they're real and in our lives, and we can't escape them by turning on a light. Beautifully expressed Amaya, it's a wonderful poem!

Thank you!
This really is creepy, scary and makes you feel that girls emotions. At first, I just thought it was a horror story. Then noticed it was about sexual abuse. Then it twigged it was about getting abused by someone she lives with her brother, father, cousin or Uncle not sure who. This really put the wind up me. And upset me. As something like that is far from anything any young girl should have to deal with. Traumatic, evil and sick. No wonder she was fearful and dreading.
