The River's SongA Poem by Amarjyoti DeLife is like the flow of the river, it has its ups and downs, but at the end of the day, we want our human lives to be a merry songAn eternal day, In the day of snow Where rests the mountain gravel, I ride across the glacial hue, I ride upon the stony pebble. My song is new and my breath is fresh, My looks are clear and wide I jump across cascading stones I skip the grassy hill’s side. I flow through glades, With their haunting shades I saunter and I ramble, I laze, I gaze on the country maid As she gathers berries from a bramble I frolic and frown, I play the clown as I come down to the valley, I cross that jolly, little old town, Where wise men banter and sally. I swiftly twist and gently turn, Amidst shimmering city lights, And with a mighty sway, Walled levees I spurn, Under milky, starry nights I flip, I skip, and I trip and chip As I rush through rustic farms I spread out silt, and fishes’ milt And down I go to the sea’s arms Thus I flow with a cheer, Making my journey along A path that’s full of ups and downs, Singing a merry little song. - Amarjyoti De © 2014 Amarjyoti De |
