Lovely Marina

A Poem by lovelymarina
"

A story time about the collection of victims that my ex lover got his hands on through a series of tapes.

"
Your collection is divine my dear.
Taken off a dusted bookshelf slipped right into the VCR player my daddy always placed under the TV,
so promptly,
where we watched Brandon’s 1st birthday,
and the time I dressed up like I was in a 1970s vortex of woodstock at three years old.
Going back to those days
would be nice.

A collection filled with novelties..
too many to stand ground blue.
Cracked discs with black sharpie labeled by precious name,
there’s a blonde on the end of eighth ave and I think we both know why she’s there.

The tall, brown haired, starry eyed beauty has just entered the city,
and she'll find you soon too.
She'll light a candle with dinner,
anticipate sex and charm,
which is what she'll get,
until you leave.

What about lovely marina?
The one who sits by the sea at night and counts each individual star…
galaxy projected that seems so far,
to forget the influx of salted water that quickly filled her up
and drove her dead.

The tapes never seem to disappoint,
each story originated at the color you so pleasantly chose to match your frame of mind at any given moment.
Gabriela learned to dance to the rhythms of your madness…
oh look,
she’s standing in the corner with the medicine your mother threw at her after she failed to stroke your cocksure ego!
F**k your mother, too.

Annalise’s stupid tape won’t load!
We all can’t wait, to watch another pity story on our static noised screen,
1945 with a sound so serene,
but I guess we’ll have to wait for hers to complete…

until then,
we’ll cry for marina,
for gabriela,
for the beautiful blonde in black clothes and cheap leather boots from that thrift on 3rd ave,
and for the clueless brunette who just wants to be seen.

Even hell has its unwanted beauties,
I’m sorry my sisters.

I've been looking at the new girl's poetry and debating whether to read her. Most newbies don't acknowledge anyone. But I can say you're very good. I'm getting a real CBGB's/Lou Reed kind of vibe going on in this. It's real life, it's disconcerting, but it's real. Your descriptions pull the reader into the streets, the disturbing bed, and the darkness within Marina.

I'm glad I read this. Welcome to the site.

I just read two of your pieces back to back and just reviewed the wrong one in the wrong space…lol. It is sad when the body count gets so high snd the pile of broken lives becomes this overwhelming. Dark and well written with a great tone. A great piece of writing and a great and identifiable observation.

Thank you for taking the time to read and review my writing :)
Powerful and honest thoughts shared dear Marina. I do believe we pay for our sins, our gin.

I loved the strength of the above lines. You made the reader believe and feel the sadness. I will return tonight and I will read more. I have enjoyed your work and thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I did enjoy dear Marina and you are welcome.
In a Robert Creeley sense...I love poetry with dialogue...the speaker regretting, after abetting this person who just conquers and keeps souvenirs of what he has done to watch for his pleasure.
The speaker has lifted herself away from him....taken care of herself, but is feeling such remorse for those who came before her and were unable to refrain from becoming victims of his brash ego.
