Empty RoomA Poem by Amanda Reynolds“Empty Room” As I stepped into this “empty room” with some of my students from last year, To clear out the last decade of my belongings, Their faces dropped, and someone said, “Ms., We don’t like it here anymore,” The room was not really empty, it had a new teacher, desks and chairs, And some motivational posters Scattered across the walls. “Stop being upset”, I told them, As we threw out garbage and moved items To my new room across the hall.
And when graduates come to visit, they are stunned that That room is not the same, But I keep reminding them that, What they loved, was never the room. © 2024 Amanda Reynolds |
