Encounters on an Off- Ramp

When I see you on the street

I always give you a dollar or two because

Life is hard enough with hands, and

You don’t have any.

Today, we saw each other on the off- ramp

By the side of the highway that I am afraid

To drive on,

And I gave you another dollar.

You smiled because you recognize me now,

And I smiled too,

Because I recognize you.

Strange how a different place creates a difference in who you see? Two strangers are more than...
because they have an understanding now. Think words: stop, read, head to one side, think - acknowledge: face familiar even though out not in a familiar place. A response could have been immediate. For me this shows heartfelt respect.
