There's philosophy out here. I really like this piece. In so few words, you have said so many words. Being compassionate, caring when you see something or anyone needing help, as humans our hearts do go out. But, yes at the same time if you can get annoyed when these pesky bugs and flies trouble you and put you at unease. It's quite paradoxical. But so true. Thanks for penning and sharing, Amanda.
Amanda,
Tiny sparks of miraculous life... six little legs with knees in place and working perfectly caught up in their own universe and cycles of birth sex and death. Flying all over the place when the poison hits and they plummet to the ground with a long wail... Why meeee?

I have been having this same problem with all sorts of bugs lately, although thankfully not all in my drink because some of them are a pretty good size. I think it's a sign of our humanity, even if we're not always exactly sure where that humanity fits in the universe, that we can't always just watch and let something die. Although my bugs still very much annoy me, I do feel a sort of responsibility for them once I've fished them out. Maybe that's our place, as life's lifeguard.
