Tyrant Mind

oh my tyrant mind
why are you so cruel
keeping my soul locked inside
using fear as a fuel

you've built up a block
nothing can get out if not pure
for an unrefined rock
can never be a jewel

so what if i'm not perfect?
everybody's not
i'm still good enough aren't i?
or am i not?

no matter what answers you give
i won't believe them
my rebellious heart
will never cave in to your system 

he still sees hope
when you try to make him blind
he still feels love
he's still caring and kind

and yes sometimes
the fight seems unworthy
but i'd chose losing everytime
over indifference and apathy

no matter how dark the night
there will always be a dawn
oh my tyrant mind
no tyrant had ever reigned for long

interesting how your poem goes from first to third person ... hmmmmm .. it is a little confusing to me... we all suffer our negative self talk ... some far more than others .. but then your poem turns to "he" .. which is worse as your speaker now is subject to what seems like consistent harmful abuse ... either way .. your poem creates strong tension .. I think it is universal and relatable (aside form abuse) i am a terrible optimist and so always enjoy positive closings :) i agree, as does history, ... tyrants will fall .. some only after great struggle and damage .. breaking our negative looping self talk takes a bit of courage and true humility .. admitting our finer points .. love and peace!

There will always be a dawn

So uplifting are those lines when darkness looms. Just as winter drifts into spring, darkness fades to reveal light. A meaningful write much enjoyed.
