That Summer

That Summer

A Poem by Amanda Melito
"

This poem is a reflection of how I lived my life for about a year. This poem could be seen as inspiration, slightly depressing, or a mix of both. You are not alone in your time of darkness.

"

Plans will be thwarted if you let them

Parts of your life will be rubble, if you watch them shatter

The mind will be your nightmare, if you always think the worst

It is so easy to be trapped within the confines of your past,

Allowing experiences of shame and anguish to define you

Last summer, will not be remembered

As I let my darkness engulf me and I had contempt for the sunlight

Contempt for the outside, a battle too heavy yet handled alone

Writing, writing “This will be the day…” to what?

Walk out the door and feel the sun on my face, watch the cars roll by

Think outside of myself, limitless not limiting

The sky is the limit, but during my 19th year there was no sky.

I believe this poem to be very fascinating. It is a feeling which every individual comes across at least once in their lifetime.
