When the sun goes down,

Making way for the lonely moon,

I smile.

I smile because of the way the moon

Casts light over the otherwise inky night.

I love the symbolism of the moon

And how it stands out in the darkness.

But I also love the it,

The darkness,

Though some connect it with terror and horror movies.

I think it is misunderstood by many,

But I know

That without the darkness,

I for one,

Wouldn’t be the person I am today.

And that,

I think,

Would be such a shame.

I am not trying to sound vain,

Someone’s God, no

I know that little

Would think of me as adjacent to perfection,

But I am proud of the person I am today,

Even if just for a fleeting moment.

And maybe,

Maybe the darkness will come my way,

Yet again,

And teach me another lesson of life.

I,

For one,

Can’t wait to feel the darkness consume me,

And,

In the end,

Spot the moon.

I'm glad ^^
I love this poem, Amanda. I love it as you love the night, the "it"; for its imperfections, its contrast, its guiding zen of no-direction that pulls one ever closer toward "the light." It reminded me of one of my own thoughts (http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/ufoauthor/1034740/). Please accept this {hug} for evoking once again, such exquisite emotion.

P.S. I appreciate the light touch of symmetry in your thought. Very Greco-Roman. Also, I think there is a sense of mathematics in your thought process that goes unnoticed or applauded. Let me, perhaps, be the first to do so.

Thank you ^^
you need to take the letter s off the word connects....This is quite interesting. I love the moon especially when it is full,,,There is a certain magic about it..I was a little puzzled by the reference to the darkness changing you...It clearly means a lot to you though..Not bad at all
