Obsession...

Obsession...

A Poem by Amanda J. S.
"

A poem about what I think of obsession :-)

"
This poem will not be about love
Nor about hate
Just about a common obsession.

I think the feeling of obsession is important to experience
At least once in your lifetime.
I think those obsessions are the feelings that make us human.

Sure,
Common feelings are great
But not really what makes us human, right?
Animals have feelings, too…
But I don’t think they have obsessions
Such as love or hate.

This is why I both love
And hate obsessions:
Because they both make us do horrible
And beautiful things.

A good write and observations on an interesting word. In this writing you have displayed a good sense of one definition. I would like to offer another, more mechanical and deterministic one. Perhaps another way to look at obsession is from the standpoint of how your computer does business, inside in its programming. It is "obsessed" with keeping track of things, data usually but mostly "time." It is obsessed with know what time it is so that can check its list of things to do. If I may humanize it for a moment... the poor little computer didn't have a choice. It was "programmed" with this list and must forever obsess over it. You, me, we... in theory, we have a choice about what to obsess over. But do we, really? I put it to you as a follow-on question since you have opened the topic up for conversation. What do you think, Amanda?
