Ledge

Ledge

A Poem by Amanda Gray

I'm on a ledge. Everything is okay on the ledge but below me looms a deep, dark ocean. I am not a good swimmer. When I fall in, which happens often, I desperately tread water until I find my way back up on the ledge. But one of these days, I am going to fall in and I won't be able to find my way back to the ledge in time. I will grow too tired and sink to the bottom. Every time I fall in, I grow weaker, making the next time more difficult than the last, meaning my demise is quickly approaching. And this frightens the hell out of me.
