Wishing for peace,
For everlasting joy,
Happiness and love,
For every girl and boy.

A time to be with family,
To feel the love in the air,
Not a time for tears,
Unhappiness or despair.

The holiday season,
Full of love, joy, and hope...
To be grateful for what you have,
Not to sit around and mope.

Colored lights and decorations,
Candles or Christmas trees,
Whatever it is you wish to do,
Just enjoy it, please.

Some are not as fortunate,
Be grateful for what you have,
Some have no family or loved ones,
To make them smile or laugh.

Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa,
No matter the celebrated holiday,
I wish you the best with it,
While celebrating it your own way...

A wonderfully written poem, Amanda! I truly enjoyed reading this poem! Your work always impresses me and a lot of other writers on this website. You never let me down with your such beautiful work. It's true that the holidays should be about spending time with one another and not all of the gifts. Also, celebrating the birth of Jesus. I think some people tend to overlook the main reason of Christmas for their own selfish reasons. If they don't celebrate him all of the time, then they should atleast of December the 25th of every single year that we have left in this messed up world. He's done so much for us. He died for our sins! That's the sweetest and best thing a person could ever do for someone else I must say. Excellent job, Amanda once again! :)

And yes, many people are beginning to forget the true meaning of these holidays, no matter the holiday that they celebrate.. None of these holidays are about being selfish! They're about being thankful for what you have, appreciating your loved ones.. Not about whatever gifts you get. Like Christmas for example is about the birth of Jesus, but if you went and asked a whole bunch of random people what they thought of when they thought of Christmas.. I really like the composition of this poem. Your rhymes are very good. You don't force them. They are very natural and they contribute to the flow of the poem.

Overall, I think this poem is a great description of the Christmas season. You describe all of the wonderful decorations and the sense of remembering and giving to other too.

Your last stanza really impressed me. You embrace those who celebrate other holidays and wish them well. I think that is a great gesture of peace, light, and understanding.
