And yet I don't see it

Because there is levels

You are addressing only a very, very tiny fraction of the larger picture. Only rarely is it ever really random, unless you only read the popular news stories about spree shootings and/or serial killers. You pose a good question but wrapping it up with "just being... living...trying..." while pretending culture/race/mental illness/history/financial/domestic violence etc. doesn't matter is reductive to the point of absurdity. As far as demographics like race, class, nationality and environment are concerned... yeah, most of the time it does matter... even in America. To ignore that is to ignore the reality of what is happening everyday in regards to the majority of violently fatal crimes in favor of what is sensationalized. Kinda like pretending car theft is only specific to fancy cars or teenaged joy riding when in reality it's the normal cars that are getting stolen everyday for mundane, financial, or situational reasons. You are distorting why violence of that nature happens everyday. Pandering to the headline crimes as if they were everyday problems is, in my opinion, shallow minded at best.

I didn't base it off of that at all. Just being... pertained to race, gender, and culture as the ellipsis allows the reader to pertain it to everyone. Living has to do with being a minority as a victim is shot based off of prejudice because of who they are. Just trying has to do with all the shooting where the person is shot trying to give a person info or talk a person down. I get what got from the poem. I wanted the reader to connect it to themselves more as everyone has a place in society based on these things. Everyone a has a place based on other factors like sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, psychosis, etc. I get that I should have possibly added more info, but I did not want to leave out people who believe they could get shot for a difference they have. Thats why I have ellipses at the end to give the reader options based on their own experiences.

I side with TKLittle on this one. You are very vague and agree with the media on the problem of spree shootings. First off, the classification of a "mass shooting" and "school shooting" are very loosely defined by not only the media, but also the FBI. A mass shooting is technically 4 or more murders/injuries (not through collateral damage such as falling down stairs or being trampled) within a short period of time. It is not well defined and it is written that way to inspire/spark controversy. This poem and the argument you are making are based solely off cherry picking from sources that suit your belief and what makes you correct. I refuse to even begin to acknowledge the bullshit within your poem that says it doesn't matter about race. That in itself is arrogant and blind. You cannot, and I say, cannot be a writer/journalist if you do not understand the broad picture, have an open mind, and are heavily biased because you feel about something strongly.
