Slow Motion

Slow Motion

A Poem by Ama Lew

Everything stopped today

Went in slow motion

Like in the movies, only better

There was a smell in the air

A smell of nothing

There was nothing really happening

Everything stopped today

It all went quiet

No or cars or anything, just breathing

The next ten seconds felt long

Like whole minutes

Nothing really mattered at all

I felt something new today

I think it was just feeling

Like for the first time, only it wasn’t

It had happened so many times before

This was different because it was real

It wasn’t like this the first time

It was messy

Not like the movies, just hasty

All of the times following

Too many to count

I hadn’t felt this

Not until today

Everything stopped today
