Another Paved Paradise

Another Paved Paradise

A Poem by Ama Lew
"

a personal peice inspired by Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi.

"

It’s a lot like that Big Yellow Taxi Joni talked about

You have all you ever needed

Then it leaves without a sound

Except a big screen door

The warmth and understanding was all around me then

I never treated it too well

I disgraced it with my sins

Then it was gone forever

A woman with a heart like mine that ached with loneliness

I shunned her for her silence

It is now that I regret

Ever opening my mouth

A friend with good intentions, drowning in a memory

I hated him for nothing

Always asking him to leave

Now he leaves at his own pace

A chance for independence, to spread my wings and fly

Now I’m back at home

Kiss my pride goodbye

I’ve nothing but memory

It’s a lot like that paved paradise about which Joni sang

It used to be so beautiful

Now it’s gone without a trace

It’s just a parking lot
