Once In Every Lifetime...

Once In Every Lifetime...

A Poem by amailleia
"

Inspired by Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah, This One's For the Girls by Martina McBride, and that chain email that talks about how the women in your life are angels.

"

There is a book on my bed-

Now on my desk-

It made me cry.

But it was a good cry,

The type of crying everyone needs to do

Once in their lifetime.

It's a book for girls

And mothers

And sisters

And best friends.

It's the type of book that makes you laugh,

Makes you cry,

And touches your heart

The way only perfect writing can.

This is to all the girls who have ever wondered:

What would my life be like without my mother?

What would happen if I called up that old friend?

Why can't she just let me go to that concert?

Why can't she understand why she can't go to that concert?

When will they realize that it's not the concert that matters?

What can people do to try and spread cancer awareness?

What will happen if it doesn't go away?

How long can the best friendships really last?

She never listens.

What would I say to her?

All my friends are going!

You're only fifteen, and he's a junior!

They'll see in time.

If only there was something that could be done...

What will I look like without hair?

We've been friends for years, but will we still be friends tomorrow?

I had to write this out

Just so everyone could see

That there are women who think they are girls

And girls who think they are women

But at the end of the day

Love must touch us

Just...

At least...

Once in every lifetime.

Author's Note

I haven't been able to write in awhile. Nothing meaningful. But I just finished the book Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah and got inspired. If you're a woman with love, a woman without it, a girl with dreams of love, a girl with dreams of fame...or even just your everyday angel, you should read the book. Trust me.

That is so thoughtful. I love:
"There are women who think they are girls
And girls who think they are women
But at the end of the day
Love must touch us"
Great job :)
