Your writing begins on 2B

Your writing begins on 2B

A Poem by andrew mitchell

2B or not 2B
that is your pencil.

I seek not
to sharpen
your instrument
however, I advise you
to sharpen your wit
before your graphite thoughts
slip away.

Don’t lead me down
your pencilled path
for the pen is mightier.

And lead me not
to your page
for your thoughts
are poisoned
so I will not be drawn
as I pronounce
your thoughts
dead on arrival.

I know the weight
of lead you carry
my page is bowed
upon your entry.

So I await your departure
blank as I would be..
released, I am free.

To see or not to see
that is my question.

the purloined poem
and oh how I detest bowed pages...
