Where would we be
without writers
that fill the void,
the space that surrounds us,
the cultivators of thought?
Where would we be
without the writers
whom entertain our thoughts
stimulating the senses
giving growth to ideas,
turning the key that
finally unlocks
the gateway to the mind?
Where would we be
without the writers
lost in their silence
alone with our thoughts
from deep space
an inner vision
screams out.
I cannot imagine my life without poetry. My mom started buying me books by Rod McKuen when I was in high school, after showing a love for writing essays in tenth grade English. I loved music too, and intently listened to the lyrics of songs on the radio and wished I could write like that. I'm mostly thankful for venues like this, which have brought me in touch with so many poets around the world. It's pretty amazing how influential it can be, if you just take the time to read!

Thanks Kelly. I have two books by Rod McKuen, liked his style a lot. It would be lonely indeed.
Andrew,
As a retired literature and writing teacher, I can tell you we are a separate people. Twenty-two years ago, my last graduate professor of "Modern Poetry" was leaving the profession because nobody reads poetry in our mentally declining culture. The class had about thirty students and when asked, only three of us had EVER bought a book of poetry. I'm pretty pessimistic myself. Growing up, EVERYONE had heard of Robert Frost and Carl Sandburg. Today, no one can name a currently famous poet or any other literary writer.
If it wasn't for other writers, nobody today would be reading us anymore...

If we survive, the future will not look back kindly...
It is the writers that document our world else all these moments, thoughts and visions would be lost for ever.
It was interesting that the Pics documented their world in pictures so even then they had the need to share as we do .

Thank you Stella and I agree so much would be lost.
Nicely penned Andrew. I am certainly grateful for sure for those who write, those who read and anyone who inspires thoughts to write, also for this playground we frequent. Have a good weekend.

We have blue sky and sunshine this morning. The tree outside my window is calm, so the wind has dropped. Fingers crossed it stays that way :)
