Hurkle-Durkle anyone?

Hurkle-Durkle anyone?

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Will I survive Doctor?
Aye, yes laddie you will,
I promise
on my mother’s haggis.
You are suffering
from Hurkle-Durkle -
a two hundred year
old Scottish term
for lounging in bed
long after it’s time
to get up.
Why am I so happy?
Because…laddie
happiness is
Hurkle-Durkling.
Thanks Doctor…. Doctor……
Doctor Jekyll
and the very best
of a Scottish day to you.

Andrew,
Why is it that most of the best poets on here are from Scotland? What a great piece. As a retired English/Creative writing, I can say i'd have lo say what a pleasure it would have been to have my students turn to page whatever and find "Hurkle-Durkle Anyone?" It is poetry such as this that makes me feel pity for the world of Philistines who know nothing of literature but still inhabit the Earth. They are many, and their numbers grow exponentially.
By the way, I 'm glad it isn't a terminal condition, because there is something entirely too sensual about lying in a warm bed in a cold room, nothing but my nose sticking out...

Many thanks John for your words.
I called it fighting inertia; hurkle durkle is a cute word. I hope you are not being late to work every morning by lounging. Lol
A very humorous poem.
