The acquired status

Only recently
I have acquired
my new status
of being called
Sir
without kneeling
before the King.
Most notably,
at the supermarket checkout,
the chemist, the butcher
and come to think of it
most retail stores.
Some go as far as adding
dear or Lovee
such endearing terms
by the ladies.
Funny thing is
my bank account
remains the same.
