A Poem by andrew mitchell

Is this the Death department?
Yes it is. How can I help you?
I wish to choose my own death.
Perfect! We have a sale on as we speak.
Anything in particular?
What have you got?
Well, we do death by natural causes,
very popular you know.
Or we have death by hanging,
death by accident, death by foul play,
death by cancer which is quite common,
and finally dying in your sleep.
With every death you get
to choose your burial
lying down in a coffin
with a glass side window
to view the underground
or more economically
buried standing up vertically
as you take less room
so you can chat
with the neighbours.
What about a cremation?
Yes ,if you go down the corridor
down the lift to the Devil’s Department,
they will carry out all your inferno likings.
I’ll think I’ll choose dying in my sleep
just like my grandpa
not screaming and carrying on
like his other passengers
in his car.
Good choice! Just sign here.

Probably Halloween Vol.
A lovely bit of black humour. How we need that at times. If we are lucky, we will die in our sleep. Knowing what my luck is like, it will probably be long and protracted. That’s all right too. I’ve always said, hell is here on earth. I’ll take what comes as long as I have morphine and lots of it.
