Don’t go into
the woods today.
The trees are on
the hunt they say.
You’ll disappear
without a trace
no longer will
you have a face.
They’ll use autumn
as the perfect cover
stand alone
you’ll discover
the trees are hungry
in the woods today
their menu is
blood and bone
they say.
That's okay, I like to live dangerously!
But your imagery reminds me of a wet hollow behind my grandparents' home in rural Tennessee. I was only five or six the first time I explored its dark recesses; I remember its whisper quiet, and brooding presence as though it was yesterday. Near the dank, muddy bottom was a large hollow tree... I looked in there and found a cow's skull looking back at me... It is a memory I cherish, and thank you for the reminder!

As a kid I remember the wind through tall pine trees had an eerie chill, spooky. thanks Vol.
You reminded me here of the Day of the Triffids. Can you remember that book and film from way back Andrew. Plants that came to life and were hungry for humans:)

Yes, I've seen all the movies and read the book. Great stuff.
