You are quite right Andrew. It is cruel in a red of tooth and claw world.Done without malice however. Only man does that. An extremly pithy and well constructed write.
Sad but true; survival of the fittest, the cruelest and the war lords.
I believe in strict rules of self defense, but not aggression, wars for corruption, wars for big corporations, wars for subjucating and many more.
How about we launch wars on ignorance, poverty , drugs, destruction of the planet and so forth.
You say the most in the least Emperor
And yet, it is the way of the world. Having grown up very poor, wild game and fish were an important addition to the dinner tables I knew. Though I always hated to see anything die, I knew it had to be. Some Christians said it was fine because God had put the animals there for our consumption, and I guess I accepted that. Religion aside, it seemed/seems logical. Certainly, the world could benefit from fewer methane dispensers grazing in the fields, so I would welcome meat substitutes as long as they tasted good and were healthy.
Kill or be killed is nature's way, unless it's stupid men going to war for no good reason. (Is there ever a good reason?)
I don't believe nature is as much "cruel" as indifferent. She bestows her blessings on all and shows favoritism to none. All are subject to her wrath and each is equipped with certain skills needed for survival. But as Solomon observed, "Time and chance happen to all." Some days we're the eagle, some days we're the prey. The fastest gazelle outruns the cheetah but the cheetah has to eat too. People, however, are the only creature which hunt for "sport". Mankind is the only animal that is cruel simply for cruelty's sake. We are a very self-destructive species on the verge of our own self-manipulated demise.

It’s a cruel world and we are all part of it to restore the balance of nature which can only be described as callous. But we accept it because they are only animals. Not a happy peaceful setup by any means. But here we are!

So much for "potential".
