Across the street.

Across the street.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

The house of Quiet
became the house of Love
which in turn became
the house of Wellness.

Next door, the house of Cards
became the house of Violence
where the house of Representatives clashed
leading to the house of No-more.

Across the street
was the house that Jack built.
Along side, the house of Usher began to fall,
and next door
the house of the Rising Sun shone brightly.

At nightfall, the sky was lit
by the house in the Moon,
far away I heard
the house of Laughter.

But there was no light
in the house of Sadness
they went to the house of Pray.

Following the stars
a house on Wheels went by
looking for the house of Dreams.
behind the houses of the Holy.

I have always admired your clever writing style - my brain just don't work that way! I see a little community - each house with its own family - each family living out their own interpretation of life, each with their own daily win and battles and obstacles. I see that house on wheels ... it had a horse to guide it through the little streets - it was glad to keep going away from the common life :)

Nice on my friend X

A powerful and worthwhile poem shared Andrew. Many kind of houses. Wrong or right. They stand alone. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

A very interesting piece, Andrew.....

This reads like a microcosm of life; all the homes where people dwell, similar from the outside yet very different within. This is a true reflection of what may well be happening on every street, in every city and country on Earth. You have used many familiar phrases and weaved them into a fabulous portrait of the going-ons behind all our closed doors.

A very unique write, one that many of us can interpret and put our own understanding towards. Fine work, as always.

Hahaha. Are you a real estate agent now selling houses albeit of different kinds???
A masterful list ofall the expressive houses of this and that in the English language or common terms. Very creative and original.

Hahaha. You are welcome king of humor and Homer...
Every once in a while, some writer gathers a list of stuff -- movies, song titles, etc. -- weaving them into a poem . . . this is the best I've seen that done lately. I love that you are more subtle about making a point to show the intent behind your poem with text demarcations & you're mostly focusing on working in the chosen phrases to really mean something in your narrative. I'm amazed by how many you came up with! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
