Excuse me! Have you got a match?

Excuse me! Have you got a match?

A Poem by andrew mitchell
"

Dedicated to all those 50,000 so called witches that were burnt at the stake by the persecution of the Catholic Church when all it was, was freedom of speech or being different. The Shame Files!

"
Excuse me! Have you got a match?
There's a lot at stake
on the freedom of speech.
As Heathens burn for Heresy,
the cloaks of faith whip
themselves to sleep,
for fear of redemption.
A leap of faith
on a cast of spells
littering the sky;
smoke rising gather
in clouds of discontent.
Having no cross to bear
as eight bells toll
on the innocent burned.
Where was the heavy hand of God
to intervene on his followers?
Of Gods and Monsters
superstition and fear
created monsters of the Church
that still live today.

i really relate to this...having been raised Catholic but having drifted away from it because of things like this...that ultimate edict that we were the one true church and those who followed any other religion were doomed to go down at the end...i never believed it, even as a small child...the church has many of its own crosses to bear...and needs to start making the walk.
