In search of evergreen.

In search of evergreen.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

In search of evergreen.
While the leaves
of past loves
lie dead in the gutter.
New thoughts on love
come from growth
by chance,
in search of the evergreen.

What wonderful imagery. It plays like a scene from a film in my head. It also reminds of The Fig Tree from Sylvia Plath's 'The Bell Jar'.

We must shed our old leaves in order to grow. We must shed our old leaves to find the ever-green. I love the connotations that come with the word 'evergreen'. Fantastic poem.
